Curriculum

The Discovery Kindergarten curriculum is based upon the Massachusetts Department of Education frameworks and the NAEYC Standards.

 

The curriculum frameworks guide the subject material and skills taught at each grade level in the Massachusetts Public Schools. Our goal is to prepare each and every student academically, socially, and emotionally for a smooth transition to the next grade level, whether a private or public institution.

 

The following is an overview of the Discovery Kindergarten Program:

 

Language Arts and Early Literacy

• Reading fluency and comprehension – Shared Reading and Writing

Math

 

• Mathematics Their Way by Mary Baratta-Lorton (Addison-Wesley)
• Calendar and counting activities
• Identifying, extending and reproducing patterns
• Using graphs and charts to compare and analyze data
• Estimation and measurement (standard and non-standard)
• Ordinal numbers
• Counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s
• Modeling and solving math problems

Handwriting Without Tears® is a proven success in making legible and fluent handwriting an easy and automatic skill for all students.

 

HWT uses fun, entertaining, and educationally sound instructional methods to teach handwriting to all students: pre-k through cursive. The well-planned lessons require minimal preparation time. Thousands of administrators, teachers, therapists, and parents across the country have successfully implanted the program. The result truly is handwriting without tears for all!
